SAVE THE DATE: Free WEBINAR on “Representation of Apprentices in Vocational Education and Training” on 10 March, 10 a.m.
On Tuesday, 10 March 2020, the 7th webinar organised by ‘the Apprenticeship Support Services’ on „Representation of Apprentices in Vocational Education and Training” will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. CET.
While high quality apprenticeships are recognised as a successful pathway for young people in the transition from school-to-work, there have been limited opportunities for apprentices to be represented and contribute to policy discussions at European level. In 2017, the European Commission in cooperation with the European Youth Forum and OBESSU (Organising Bureau of European School Student Unions) established the European Apprentices Network (EAN) to improve this representation. The webinar will present the outcomes of the Study on the Representation of Apprentices in Vocational Education and Training (VET) published in September 2019 which was commissioned by the European Commission.
During the webinar, the lead authors Ilona Murphy and Patricia Vale will closely examine what apprentice representation structures exist across Europe and provide suggestions on further developments of the European Apprentice Network. The webinar will also present inspiring practices from selected apprentice representation structures in Europe.
The expert speakers are Patricia Vale, a senior consultant at ICF who specialises in education and training policies; and Ilona Murphy, an associate consultant at ICF who specialises in apprenticeship policy, validation of non-formal and informal learning and early school leaving. Patricia and Ilona have been involved in several apprenticeship studies. These include a DG EAC study on ‘European Alliance for Apprenticeships – Assessment of progress and planning the future’, a Cedefop study on ‘Cross national overview on apprenticeships’, and a DG EMPL ‘Study on the Representation of apprentices in Vocational Education and Training and other relevant bodies or networks in EU Member States’.
