Open innovation in TVET

Collaborating towards a global TVET agenda

Organiser: UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for TVET; Brazilian National Service for Industrial Training (SENAI)

The future of TVET will be shaped by the ability of institutions and stakeholders to co-innovate. Open innovation fosters collaboration across sectors, enabling governments, training providers, employers, research institutions and communities to jointly create solutions for a rapidly evolving world of work.

Complementing these efforts, data and skills intelligence provide the evidence needed to identify trends, address skills mismatches and inform effective policy responses. This is becoming increasingly important as countries consider how TVET can strengthen its contribution to lifelong learning, inclusion, productivity and sustainable development in the context of the post-2030 education agenda.

From 4 to 6 November 2026, the global TVET community gathers in São Paulo, Brazil for a Bridging Innovation and Learning in TVET (BILT) event titled “Open innovation in TVET: Collaborating towards a global TVET agenda”. The event contributes to the “Towards a Global TVET Agenda” (TGTA) initiative by fostering international policy dialogue, peer learning and exchange on innovative approaches to TVET within and across regions. The multilateral TGTA initiative is led by the German Federal Ministry for Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMBFSFJ) and coordinated by the German Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB). It aims to strengthen global collaboration and coordinated action to reposition TVET as a driver of sustainable economic development, social cohesion and inclusive growth.
