The symposium “Educational Migration Research from an Interdisciplinary and Comparative Perspective” aims to explore current dynamics, theo­re­ti­cal frame­works, and empirical approa­ches in edu­ca­tio­nal migration research from an inter­na­tio­nal­ly com­pa­ra­ti­ve per­spec­ti­ve. It provides a scholarly forum for examining con­tem­po­ra­ry migration-related chal­lenges in education, while fostering inter­di­sci­pli­na­ry dialogue and iden­ti­fy­ing transfer poten­ti­als to edu­ca­tio­nal practice and policy.

Thematic Focus

Education under Conditions of Heterogeneity, Inequalities, and Social Exclusion: Challenges – Approaches – Perspectives

The symposium focuses on edu­ca­tio­nal processes shaped by forced migration, precarity, dis­cri­mi­na­ti­on, social ine­qua­li­ty, and insti­tu­tio­nal mecha­nisms of exclusion. Special emphasis is placed on how these con­di­ti­ons affect edu­ca­tio­nal tra­jec­to­ries, par­ti­ci­pa­ti­on oppor­tu­ni­ties, and expe­ri­en­ces of belonging across generations.

Contributions are invited that address, among others:

• Social cons­truc­tions of hete­ro­gen­ei­ty and edu­ca­tio­nal inequality
• Experiences of injustice and edu­ca­tio­nal justice
• Moral emotions (e.g. indi­gna­ti­on, shame, empathy) as ana­ly­ti­cal lenses in migration research
• Intergenerational trans­mis­si­on of edu­ca­tio­nal experiences
• Intersectional per­spec­ti­ves on education and migration

The symposium encou­ra­ges inter­di­sci­pli­na­ry, inter­sec­tion­al, theo­re­ti­cal, empirical, and metho­do­lo­gi­cal contributions.
