The online Occupational Information System (BIS) went online for the first time in 2001 and since then has offered comprehensive overviews on occupations, the required skills and qualifications. Furthermore, education and training opportunities related to these careers are presented too. A link to the AMS eJob-Room allows the user to filter through current job offers and displays them on a map of Austria and the EU.

The BIS is divided into 15 occupational areas, offers short descriptions of about 500 occupations including job tasks, skills-sets, salary details and further training opportunities. In addition, it contains about 17,500 job titles and more than 25,000 skills, so far.

The noteworthy added value of the BIS lies in its emphasis on interlinking different types of career information. In tandem to its public use it is also integrated into the AMS-internal application for counselling services.
