    Apprenticeships for the Union of Skills and the Clean Industrial Deal

    2025 High-Level Event

    Veranstalter: European Alliance for Apprenticeships (EAfA)
    The 2025 edition of the High-Level Event comes at a pivotal moment, as the European Commission has recently unveiled two new flagship initia­ti­ves empha­sis­ing the crucial role of skills deve­lo­p­ment for a com­pe­ti­ti­ve, inclusive, and green Europe:
    • Union of Skills: a strategy designed to support ups­kil­ling, res­kil­ling, and the deve­lo­p­ment of high-quality, inclusive and flexible education and training for all.
    • Clean Industrial Deal: a multi-annual plan aimed at aiding tra­di­tio­nal energy-intensive indu­stries to decar­bo­ni­se, with an emphasis on promoting skills deve­lo­p­ment and quality employment.
    In light of these deve­lo­p­ments, the High-Level Event will offer a platform to discuss the con­tri­bu­ti­on of app­ren­ti­ce­ships to both initia­ti­ves. Key topics will include the impact of work-based learning on sup­port­ing clean tech­no­lo­gies and green skills deve­lo­p­ment for all learners; the enhance­ment of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education within app­ren­ti­ce­ships related to clean tech­no­lo­gies and energy-intensive indu­stries; and ensuring the human capital necessary for building a strong, future-ready Europe.
    The event will aim to:
    • Explore how app­ren­ti­ce­ships can con­tri­bu­te to the Union of Skills and the Clean Industrial Deal initia­ti­ves.
    • Advocate for quality app­ren­ti­ce­ships as an important tool to develop key skills in the workforce, and sup­port­ing the green tran­si­ti­on and clean tech­no­lo­gies.
    • Encourage current EAfA members to streng­then their com­mit­ments and invite new orga­ni­sa­ti­ons to join the Alliance.
    • Enhance the visi­bi­li­ty of key EAfA stake­hol­ders and their con­tri­bu­ti­ons towards quality apprenticeships.
    The High-Level Event is scheduled for the afternoon of 30 June and the morning of 1 July.
    Following the High-Level Event, the Get Together Event will take place in the afternoon of 1 July 2025. Driven by EAfA members, this event will offer par­ti­ci­pan­ts the oppor­tu­ni­ty to network and explore coope­ra­ti­on opportunities.

    VETNET

    Topics:

    • How do we understand the role of VET in preparing young people for work when labour markets and workplaces are in flux nationally and internationally?
    • Is this changing the nature of VET and VET curricula? Is it raising new questions on work, labour markets and education? What is core to VET that is stable across different contexts?
    • Are systems looking more similar or more different from each other?
    • What are the main factors—such as workplace organisation, changing labour markets, changing enrolment in schools and universities, and the nature of economies that are influencing different aspects of VET provision—such as curriculum, governance, partnerships, enrollment patterns—in different countries?
    • How do we connect better as researchers, and use VET research to build connection?

    Dates and timeline

    • Submission of abstracts: opens 15 October 2026, closes 15 November 2026
    • Notification of acceptance: 15 December 2026
    • Submission of full paper: 20 February 2027
    • Feedback to your paper: 31 March 2027. You will then have 10 days to make the necessaries changes.
