Intersectionality for Change
Opportunities and Challenges in Higher Education Research, Teaching and Policy
Intersectionality has become a key lens for understanding how overlapping systems of power shape experiences in higher education, yet its growing use across disciplines and institutions also raises questions about translation, depoliticisation, and relevance to local contexts. As intersectionality becomes embedded in teaching, research, and policy, important challenges emerge — ranging from methodological and pedagogical complexities to the risk of reducing the framework to a managerial tool.
This conference aims to address these gaps by bringing together scholars, students, and practitioners to reflect on how intersectionality is applied, contested, and transformed within higher education.
The Call for Papers for the INTERHEd Final Conference is open until the 24th of April 2026. Abstracts (max. 250 words) can be submitted here.
Submissions on topics including the following are welcome:
• Intersectionality in teaching and research
• Emerging axes of inequality in higher education in Europe
• Resistance, contestation and backlash in higher education
• Intersectionality in policy and institutional frameworks.
