The rapid push for digitalisation since the beginning of the pandemic offers new opportunities for adult education providers, but also poses difficulties depending on the target group and educational sector. In order to gain new perspectives and find inspiring approaches, the Vienna Adult Education Centres have commissioned a research project. They are looking for international good practice examples for the use of e‑learning in adult education. The aim is to create a collection of selected examples that can serve the organisation and its trainers as inspiration for innovative educational offers.

Special attention is paid to the pedagogical-didactical support of the trainers as well as to examples that are transferable to the conditions of the Adult Education Centres, for example address similar target groups. Access for disadvantaged groups who do not have access to a PC or laptop is also taken into account by describing e‑learning models that enable participation via mobile phones or smart TV devices.

The research focuses mainly on examples from non-German speaking European countries, such as France, the UK and the Nordic countries. In addition, experience from the USA, Canada and Australia is also included, which, due to their geographical circumstances, have long traditions in the field of distance learning. In addition, examples from selected Asian countries such as Singapore and South Korea are examined.
