Working in the EU: Commission adopts Fair Labour Mobility Package
The aim of the recently adopted Fair Labour Mobility Package is to make it easier for people to move, work and access their social rights across the EU. The package includes, among other things:
- a digital wallet for storing and accessing important social security documents and standardised records of their qualifications;
- faster recognition of skills and qualifications, for example, those of nurses, engineers and teachers, acquired in another EU country, helping to match skilled workers more effectively with labour market needs;
- stronger tools for the European Labour Authority to strengthen the enforcement of rules on fair labour mobility.
A key element of the package is the Skills Portability Initiative (SPI), which seeks to make qualifications and skills easier to understand, compare, verify and recognise across borders. The initiative includes measures on digital qualifications, recognition of professional qualifications and the recognition of qualifications and skills of third-country nationals. 3s Research & Consulting contributed to the study for the impact assessment of the SPI.
