SkillsPath – Building Bridges for a Sustainable Career Future

Across Europe, many young people who are neither in employment nor in education or training face significant barriers when entering the labour market. Young migrants and refugees are particularly affected, often lacking access to suitable training and employment opportunities. SkillsPath addresses this challenge by combining technological innovation with tailored, individual support.
At the heart of the ESF+ funded project lies a social innovation: an AI-based competence assessment tool that helps young people identify and articulate their skills. This tool is integrated into a comprehensive support model that includes:
- Job readiness training and development of soft skills
- Referral to further education and training opportunities
- Individual coaching for career planning
- Employer engagement to create tailored entry pathways
Expected Outcomes
- Improved employability of young refugees and migrants
- Better access to training and employment opportunities, especially in the green economy
- Enhanced capacity of employment services to use technology-based solutions
- Increased awareness among key stakeholders of innovative approaches to skills validation
A practical guide and toolkit showcasing the SkillsPath approach, methods, and best practices will ensure long-term impact, support scalability, and promote the transfer of this model beyond the project’s lifetime.
The project is coordinated by the International Rescue Committee Germany, with Claudia Plaimauer from 3s contributing to the adaptation of ESCO – the European taxonomy for occupations and their necessary skills – to meet the project’s specific requirements.
