EQAVET Peer Review Initiative
The European Quality Assurance Reference Framework for Vocational Education and Training (EQAVET) emerged from the 2009 recommendation of the European Parliament and Council and supports quality assurance in VET across Europe. EQAVET thus also contributes to the implementation of the Council Recommendation on Vocational Education and Training for Sustainable Competitiveness, Social Fairness, and Resilience (2020). The Recommendation describes how EQAVET can be used to improve the quality of initial and continuing VET and presents the full EQAVET framework.
In the implementation of the network activities, the EQAVET Secretariat has central tasks. Karin Luomi-Messerer and Monika Auzinger support the Secretariat as experts and are responsible, among other things, for the preparation, implementation and documentation of peer reviews in the member countries. The aim is to take stock of existing quality assurance mechanisms in the national VET systems, identify challenges and possible solutions from the EQAVET context. The peer review process is based on a methodology agreed on by the Network and documented in a manual that covers the main principles of EQUAVET peer reviews. In the course of 2023, a total of twelve such events are planned; ten already took place in 2022.
