Join the consultation: Facilitating worker mobility through skills transparency and digitalisation
The SPI will pursue three specific objectives:
- increase the transparency and comparability of qualifications and skills, irrespective of how and where they have been acquired;
- modernise recognition procedures for EU citizens’ access to regulated professions, including through digital tools; and
- streamline and simplify the recognition of third-country nationals’ qualifications
This initiative aims to build on existing tools for transparency of skills and qualifications and to explore the promotion of interoperable digital credentials. The goal is to facilitate workers’ mobility, enhance the single market, and make it easier for skills and qualifications to be understood and accepted across the EU.
As part of the impact assessment activities the European Commission has launched a public consultation on the upcoming Skills Portability Initiative. Workers, employers and others are invited to share their views and experiences on the barriers they face today in skills portability when working and hiring across borders.
Both a questionnaire and a call for evidence will remain open until 27 February 2026.
