Adult learning in the dual transition

At a joint event organised by the Vienna Chamber of Labour and waff, a spotlight was cast on ‘Adult learning in the field of tension between digital and sustainable transformation’.

More than 200 experts, decision-makers and practitioners from the field of education policy came together at the invitation of waff (Vienna Employment Promotion Fund) and the Vienna Chamber of Labour on 15 May 2024 for a conference to hear and discuss various contributions on current challenges in adult learning.

3s was represented by Günter Hefler, who not only added the European dimension of adult learning policies to the event in his presentation ‘From today’s politics to the vision on the horizon: Europe, the EU and the emergence of adult learning systems’, but also highlighted the connections to the other levels of a multi-level system and demonstrated its role in the development and design of adult learning systems using examples from Austria.

Other items on the programme included the presentation of a survey among educational providers regarding digitalisation and climate protection by Norbert Lachmayr and Philipp Schnell (öibf); the German sociologist Jutta Allmendinger (Berlin Social Science Center) spoke on the need for a fundamental reorientation of education and training in the life course and Anita Thaler (Interdisciplinary Research Centre for Technology, Work and Culture) shared a presentation on social gender equality in digital and sustainable transformation processes.
