Advancing vocational education and training: Focus on excellence and inclusion

Cedefop recently hosted two events on the future of VET in Europe and preparing European VET systems for upcoming challenges.

On 24 October, a virtual workshop took place as part of the 3s-coordinated Cedefop research project European VET for the 21st Century: The Balancing of Excellence and Inclusion, where first project results were presented (Karin Luomi-Messerer) and contextualised. Several parallel sessions then focussed on how excellence and inclusion can coexist and be implemented in European VET systems. There was input and discussion on the following topics: Macro-level developments (policies and reforms) over the last 25 years (introduction Jörg Markowitsch, rapporteur Monika Auzinger); Different approaches to excellence and inclusion in Europe; Higher VET and implications for excellence and inclusion (Mariya Dzhengozova).

The extensive documentation of the well-attended events can be found here.

17th Cedefop seminar in Brussels: Partnerships between vocational education and training and higher education

The 17th Cedefop seminar in Brussels, organised in cooperation with the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU, also focused on the ongoing project on excellence and inclusion (see video documentation of the presentation by Cedefop expert Anastasia Pouliou) and showed how the project builds on previous studies such as The changing nature and role of VET in Europe (2015–18) and Future of VET (2019–22). The topic of synergies between VET and higher education partnerships to achieve inclusive growth was explored in greater depth.
