Artificial Intelligence as a Topic in Non-formal Training
The relevance of artificial intelligence (AI) in our society has strongly increased in recent years due to the widespread availability of tools such as ChatGPT. It is therefore essential that the opportunities and risks of AI are widely understood and that responsible use is encouraged. Appropriate training can play an important role here. Building on the methodology of the 2024 study on the training market for digital competences, this study focuses on non-formal training courses that address various aspects of AI, ranging from the use of relevant tools in professional settings to courses aimed at developers. A further focus is on courses targeting AI competences in private, non-professional contexts.
Dynamic Offering Landscape of AI Training
Between March and May 2025, the Austrian landscape of open training offers on AI competences is analysed. The aim is of the study is to provide an overview of the market, analyse course structures, and derive recommendations for action to support the development of the field. The market is highly dynamic, and the number of available courses has increased considerably in recent years. The analysis covers over 500 different course offers from about 100 providers. Examined aspects include the structure of providers, course content, training formats, pricing, target group orientation, and the profiles of instructors.
It is expected that in the future, gaps in the training offers for AI competences will need to be closed and low-threshold access promoted.
