Beyond subsidising training costs

Günter Hefler presented results from a two-year research project at the Cedefop Brussels Seminar on 15 December 2022. Key aim was to find answers to the question how policy instruments support MSMEs to increase their training provision.

Employers play a crucial role in the promotion of lifelong learning by sponsoring a vast majority of continuing vocational education and training (CVET). Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSME) provide far less employer-sponsored training than larger companies with a considerable share of MSMEs not providing any training at all. The presentation lines out the reasons for this MSME training gap such as lack of financial resources but also other barriers as lack of know-how, awareness and time.

For more in-depth information see the event page and download the presentation.

The full reports from the Cedefop funded study on Financial and non-financial incentives to encourage provision of and participation in education and training will be published in 2023.
