EXPECT — Sustainable vocational education and training in the Netherlands

At the end of the Erasmus+ project EXPECT, the consortium members met in the south of the Netherlands.

On 15 and 16 June 2023, the last Peer Learning Activity (PLA) took place in the picturesque town of s’Hertogenbosch at the vocational school “Koning Willem I College”, which has about 17,000 students and ten training areas. This vocational training institution is already very advanced in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and even employs its own sustainability teacher. The building is heated with heat pumps, has triple-glazed windows for better insulation, has an air recovery system, uses water in a sustainable way and offers organic products in the school canteen. In addition to an introduction to the Dutch vocational education system and a guided tour of the school, the participants visited, among other things, the “Talent Studio”, where multidisciplinary teams of students work in a special project for a fortnight a year on tasks set by companies. The open class system with the abolition of frontal teaching and the switch to project work also attracted a lot of interest. More information can be found in the last Newsletter No. 8.
