The European Inventory on Validation of Non-Formal and Informal Learning has been providing a regularly updated overview of validation practices and arrangements in each country since 2014. This is in line with the Council Recommendation on the validation of non-formal and informal learning from 2012. The European Commission — in close cooperation with Cedefop (European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training) and ETF (European Training Foundation) — has commissioned ICF in cooperation with 3s to carry out a further update.

The 2023 update will include country reports for EU27 Member States and 4 EFTA countries, a synthesis report,  five country case studies and four thematic reports on the following topics:
■ Evolution of validation as an integrated part of national skills policies and strategies
■ Validation initiatives to support Ukrainian refugees
■ Validation in the green and sustainable economy
■ Systems to increase awareness of opportunities for validation of non-formal and informal learning – “Outreach”
